When you choose to put your mental health first it is inevitable that other things get pushed to the side. It’s difficult to then see the growth you are making but rest assured it is happening. Adding new habits or banishing old ones might take a lot of your focus but it doesn’t mean you’re abandoning parts of yourself. I say this because I’m currently feeling this imbalance. Like most people juggling work, a social life, exercise, politics and family is a massive challenge. I’m definitely facing it right now and I feel like I’m losing. However, only good things can come from making healthy decisions, even if it feels like a boat load of sacrifice. As you can tell, Jasmine is feeling philosophical today. It does me good to write these feelings down otherwise they bounce around in my head, make me dizzy and send me to the bar.

So I’ve been going to AA the last few days because I’ve decided I needed a little help with my personal growth journey. I’ve added exercise, healthy eating + reading into my lifestyle as of late but the depressive episodes keep sneaking in. Giving up booze was the last option which only tells me it should have been the first. Anyway, I struggled to get out of bed today. I slept till 4PM. Decided I wanted a drink. 🥃 Luckily I distracted myself, texted a sober friend and checked in on my daily horoscope and what do you know. It says: “avoid replicating old, tired patterns of behaviour.” Hilarious. Just for today I’m going to be sober. Just for today I’m going to move my body. Just for today I’m going to choose joy.
